Classroom Flooring Case Study 14.09.17
BackClassroom flooring completed ready for start of new term
We receive a lot of requests from schools for classroom flooring, this particular job which was carried out at a Primary School in Nottingham over the Summer, is now complete and was ready well in time for the start of the new school term.
Classroom before flooring was fitted
There’s lots to consider, from the overall look of the building and setting, through to the safety of the pupils both in use and during installation. We, at Apollo Flooring need to take the safety of our customers very seriously and are always happy to be accommodating and work within required installation time restraints.
When it comes to fitting at any school, it’s usually at a time when renovations or updates are underway, so typically planned during the holidays for convenience and the safety of the children. This school, in particular, required a classroom extension to expand teaching and communal areas as they had outgrown their old learning and development space.
What flooring was needed
The remit was to provide classroom flooring and flooring for quiet rooms, utility areas, cloakrooms, toilets and the school office; amounting to fourteen separate areas which all required varying flooring needs dependant on the specific activity within the area.
As a primary school, all the flooring needed to be capable of withstanding heavy use as would need to stand up to a number of years of foot traffic. So, we needed to take into account, the requirement for durability and obviously an easy clean surface to avoid typical spillages and ‘accidents’ particularly in the classrooms and toilets.
However, safety and cleaning weren’t the only factors we were asked to consider. We also needed to use a product that would create a homely and friendly atmosphere for the students as well as fit with the new modern and functional feel of the whole school extension.
Classroom and Cloakroom after flooring was fitted
Polyflor fx, our classroom flooring choice
We chose Polyflor fx Acoustix PUR to cover the 300m2 space. The high specification, decorative safety vinyl flooring range combines the assurance of sustainable slip resistance and acoustic sound insulation. It features ground breaking Polysafe PUR reinforcement for optimum appearance retention and superior cleaning benefits. Its integrated foam backed layer, has also been designed to dramatically reduce impact sound levels, which is perfect for busy school children.
Polyrib matting
The cloakroom was fitted with Polyrib matting from Jaymart, a heavy duty ribbed polypropylene/waffle backed entrance matting which we find is very popular as carpeting in foyers, offices, shops, corridors, etc. Polyrib is extremely hard wearing and effective at trapping dirt, dust and moisture which would otherwise be walked into a building. A perfect choice for a potentially muddy wellie boot children’s cloakroom.
The same as with all our clients, the most important thing was to plan the job properly and be willing to adapt. There were lots of trades working at the same time which unfortunately could impact on our installation timings and cause delays so it was important to always plan ahead for any eventuality. Despite a few delays we were able to complete well within the agreed time-frame ready for the new term.
We’ve been really pleased with the outcome of the project, as you will see from the before and after photographs.
